Key Responsibilities & Daily Duties

As a Groundworker, your day-to-day tasks will be varied and physically demanding, requiring a strong work ethic and meticulous attention to detail. You will be responsible for:

• Setting Out & Excavation: Assisting with setting out sites from engineers’ drawings, digging trenches, foundations, and drainage runs using both manual tools and mechanical plant.
• Concrete Work: Preparing bases, laying and compacting hardcore, installing reinforcement (rebar), pouring, spreading, and vibrating concrete for foundations, floor slabs, and kerbs.
• Drainage & Utilities: Laying and bedding in drainage pipes, constructing manholes and inspection chambers, and assisting with the installation of other below-ground utilities.
• General Site Preparation: Erecting and dismantling temporary site fencing, hoarding, and safety signage. Maintaining a clean, safe, and organised work area.
• Team Support & Machinery: Working collaboratively with other trades and CSCS Labourers, and operating small plant machinery such as dumpers, compactors, and vibrating pokers (with appropriate certification).
• Health & Safety Compliance: Adhering strictly to all site-specific health, safety, and environmental regulations, including risk assessments and method statements (RAMS).

Essential Skills & Requirements

To be considered for this immediate Groundworker position in Doncaster, you must meet the following core criteria:

• Valid CSCS Card: A current, in-date CSCS Card (any colour, preferably Blue or Gold) is mandatory for site access. Unsure which card you need? Our resource on CSCS Labourer roles explains the differences.
• Proven Experience: At least 6-12 months of recent, hands-on experience in a groundworking role within the UK construction industry.
• PPE & Attitude: Must own your own basic PPE (boots, helmet, hi-vis). A positive, can-do attitude, reliability, and punctuality are non-negotiable.
• Physical Fitness: The role is physically strenuous, involving lifting, bending, and working in all weather conditions.
• Additional Tickets (Desirable): CPCS or NPORS tickets for plant operation (Dumper, Roller, Excavator 360 below 10 Tonne) will significantly enhance your pay rate and job prospects.
