Key Responsibilities & Daily Duties

The Warehouse Safety Coordinator in Stockport will be entrusted with a wide range of operational and administrative safety tasks. Your primary objective is to foster a proactive safety culture and prevent incidents.

  • Conduct daily and weekly safety inspections and audits of the warehouse floor, racking, MHE (Material Handling Equipment), and working practices to identify and document potential hazards, ensuring compliance with PUWER and LOLER regulations.
  • Lead and document incident investigations (Near Misses, First Aids, RIDDOR), performing root cause analysis, and implementing effective corrective actions to prevent recurrence. This includes maintaining a detailed accident log and reporting to the HSE when necessary.
  • Develop, deliver, and record engaging health & safety inductions and toolbox talks for all warehouse staff, temporary workers, and visitors, focusing on site-specific risks like manual handling, fire safety, and safe use of equipment.
  • Manage and maintain all safety documentation, including risk assessments (manual handling, COSHH, fire), method statements, training records, equipment inspection logs, and the company's health & safety policy, ensuring they are always up-to-date and accessible.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all safety-related queries, championing safety initiatives, encouraging near-miss reporting, and working closely with the warehouse management team to continuously improve the site's safety performance metrics.

Essential Skills & Experience Required

To be successful in this SK15-based role, candidates must demonstrate a practical, hands-on approach to warehouse safety along with formal knowledge.

  • Proven experience (2+ years) in a dedicated health & safety role within a warehouse, logistics, or manufacturing environment. Familiarity with warehouse operations is non-negotiable.
  • A recognised Health & Safety qualification (e.g., NEBOSH General Certificate, IOSH Managing Safely) is highly desirable. A valid CSCS card or equivalent site safety passport is advantageous.
  • Excellent knowledge of UK HSE legislation (including PUWER, LOLER, RIDDOR, Manual Handling Regulations) and the practical ability to apply it in a dynamic setting.
  • Outstanding communication, training, and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to engage with staff at all levels, from agency workers to senior management, and the ability to write clear, concise reports.
  • Strong IT literacy (MS Office) for creating reports, presentations, and maintaining digital records. Experience with safety management software is a bonus.
