Job Description
Carer Agency is actively seeking a meticulous and reliable CNC Operator to join a dynamic engineering and manufacturing team in the heart of Brighton BN1. Our client is a well-established firm specialising in precision components for various sectors, including marine, automotive, and bespoke fabrication projects. This role is perfect for an operator who takes pride in producing high-quality work, adheres strictly to safety protocols, and thrives in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment. As a leading local staffing agency, we understand the specific needs of Brighton's industrial sector and are committed to placing candidates where their skills are truly valued and can lead to long-term career progression.
By applying for this CNC Operator position through Carer Agency, you gain access to more than just a single job. You tap into our network of reputable employers across Sussex and the South East. We handle the legwork of matching your experience with suitable roles, negotiating pay on your behalf, and ensuring you are paid accurately and on time every week. Whether you're looking for an immediate start to bridge a gap between permanent roles or seeking a temp-to-perm opportunity that offers stability, this role in Brighton BN1 represents a significant step forward. Our process is streamlined and human-focused – we get to know you, your career goals, and your availability to find the perfect fit, much like we do for roles such as CSCS Labourers in Leicester or Temporary Warehouse Staff in PA8.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, and monitor CNC milling and turning machines (e.g., 3 & 5-axis mills, lathes) to produce precision parts from materials such as aluminium, steel, and plastics, following technical drawings and programming instructions.
- Perform first-off and in-process inspections using precision measuring equipment (micrometers, verniers, CMM reports) to ensure components meet exacting quality standards and tolerances before batch production runs.
- Conduct routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting on machinery, reporting any mechanical issues or tooling wear to the workshop supervisor to minimise downtime and maintain optimal machine performance.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment in accordance with 5S principles and company health & safety policies, including the safe handling of coolants, swarf, and cutting tools.
- Work collaboratively with programmers, Stock Controllers, and other workshop staff to ensure material availability, efficient workflow, and timely completion of production schedules, adapting to shifting priorities as needed.
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience as a CNC Operator or CNC Machinist, with the ability to independently set and run machines. Familiarity with Fanuc, Siemens, or Heidenhain controls is highly advantageous.
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), and follow written work instructions with a keen eye for detail and quality.
- A solid understanding of workshop health and safety, including safe working practices around machinery, manual handling, and PPE requirements. A proactive attitude towards maintaining a hazard-free workspace.
- Reliability, a strong work ethic, and excellent timekeeping. The ideal candidate will be a team player with good communication skills, capable of working efficiently under their own initiative to meet production targets.

Frequently Asked Questions
What experience do I need to apply for this CNC Operator role in Brighton?
We are looking for candidates with proven hands-on experience setting and operating CNC machinery, ideally milling or turning centres. You should be comfortable reading engineering drawings and using basic measuring equipment. If you have experience with specific control systems (like Fanuc), please highlight this. For those with more basic workshop experience looking to upskill, we may have trainee or workshop assistant roles – please get in touch to discuss.
How quickly can I start after applying?
This role is for an immediate start. Once we receive your application and conduct a successful telephone screening, we can often complete the registration process within 24-48 hours, subject to reference checks. The goal is to get you on-site and working as soon as possible, often within the same week you apply.
What are the typical shift patterns for CNC jobs in Brighton BN1?
Shift patterns vary by client. Common patterns include standard day shifts (e.g., 7 am - 3:30 pm, 8 am - 4:30 pm), early/late shifts, and some weekend work. During your registration, we will discuss your availability and match you with roles that suit your preferred hours. We also have flexible options for other industrial roles like Stock Controllers and General Labourers.
Do I need my own tools or PPE?
For this specific role, all necessary machinery, tooling, and standard Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) like safety boots, glasses, and ear protection will be provided by the client site. You are expected to arrive with appropriate workwear (steel-toe cap boots are usually mandatory). Specialist measuring tools are typically supplied, but having your own basic micrometers or callipers can be beneficial.
What is the difference between temp and temp-to-perm?
A temporary (temp) role is for a fixed period or ongoing without a guaranteed permanent offer. Temp-to-perm means you start on a temporary basis through Carer Agency, with a view to moving onto the client's permanent payroll after a successful trial period (often 12 weeks). This role has strong temp-to-perm potential, allowing both you and the employer to ensure it's a good long-term fit.
Can I apply if I live outside Brighton BN1 but can commute?
Absolutely. We welcome applications from skilled CNC Operators across East and West Sussex who can reliably commute to Brighton BN1 and the surrounding industrial estates in Shoreham, Hove, and Lewes. Please ensure you consider travel time and costs when applying. We also have roles in other regions, similar to our placements for Tow Truck Operators in Lincoln.
