While formal qualifications are beneficial, hands-on experience is highly valued. This can include volunteering in schools, youth work, support work, or caring for children or vulnerable adults. A genuine passion for helping children learn and the right personal attributes (patience, empathy, resilience) are often just as important. We assess every candidate individually and can advise on roles suitable for your level of experience.
Yes, an enhanced DBS certificate registered with the Update Service is mandatory for all school-based work. The great news is that Carer Agency can guide you through the entire application process. If you need a new DBS, we can initiate the application for you, often at a reduced cost or sometimes free for certain roles, getting you compliant and ready to work as quickly as possible.
Day-to-day supply offers maximum flexibility. You work on an ad-hoc basis, covering short-term absences, with no obligation to accept work on any given day. Long-term contracts involve being placed in one school for a term or academic year, often supporting a specific pupil or class. This provides more stability and the chance to build deeper relationships. We offer both types and will match you with the option that suits your lifestyle and career goals.
Absolutely. Many LSAs use their experience as a springboard into higher-level roles. Common progression paths include becoming a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA), a Cover Supervisor, or embarking on teacher training (PGCE). The experience is also highly relevant for careers in educational psychology, youth work, or Social Work. We discuss your long-term aims during registration and can highlight temp-to-perm roles and clients that support professional development.
